The Square Kilometre Array Design Studies is an international effort
to investigate and develop technologies which will enable us to build
an enormous radio astronomy telescope with a million square metres
of collecting area.
SKADS focuses on the development of the Aperture Plane Phased Array
which uses fast digital technology to make a flexible, multitasking
telescope that can do many different astronomical observations all at
the same time. SKADS is partly funded by the European
Community
Sixth Framework Programme, and includes partners
from 26 institutes in 13 countries.
