2 Research Positions in Observational Astrophysics at CENTRA

The Multidisciplinary Center for Astrophysics (CENTRA)

offers two research positions in the fields of observational
astrophysics.
CENTRA is a research center of the Instituto Superior Técnico
(IST http://www.ist.utl.pt),
one of the oldest and largest schools of Science and Engineering in
Portugal. IST is a member of CLUSTER, the prestigious network of
leading European Universities of Technology. CENTRA develops scientific
activities in the fields of observational astronomy and theoretical
physics namely on high energy physics, astrophysics and cosmology.
A successful candidate will join CENTRA and is expected to work on the
determination of cosmological parameters, with emphasis in data
acquisition, analysis and interpretation.
The final selection of candidates for the open positions will be
subject to a decision from FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia) .
JOB DESCRIPTION
To do research work in an active group with large experience in
observational astrophysics (cosmology with supernovae, cosmology with
CMB and large scale structure formation).
A successful candidate is expected to participate at the research
activity at CENTRA, to lead research projects having as scientific goal
the determination of cosmological parameters, with emphasis in data
acquisition, analysis and interpretation. He/She is also expected to
participate in graduation and post-graduation programs organized by
CENTRA, including teaching duties.
A successful candidate will receive a salary in accordance with the
university regulations for a senior researcher. The contract offered
will have duration of up to 5 years, renewed yearly based on mutual
agreement. The annual gross income, before taxes, will be
3.101,87 Euros x 14 months.
APPLICANTS
Applicants must possess a PhD in one of the following areas: physics,
astrophysics, astronomy, particle physics, high energy physics.
Candidates should have a high quality research record and at least 3
years of post-doctoral research experience. The successful candidates
are expected to do research in the areas listed above. More information
